The Bristol Young Student of the Year Awards is a new competition for Post 16 students attending state schools, colleges and academies in the Bristol region. It is FREE to enter. The competition was launched on the 12th October and runs from October 2011 until March 2012. For further information please click here
The aim of these awards is to develop young peoples' employability skills to meet business needs. We are giving them real business experience. We are supported by leading business organisations including the CBI, Institute of Directors, Federation of Small Businesses, Business West, Bristol Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Bristol African Caribbean Chamber of Commerce.
Competition format
One of Bristol's growth sectors is digital media. We are giving young students the fantastic opportunity to create, develop and produce their own iPhone app. They will be working with Bristol based agency Calvium in order to develop an app for their client. Clients include Bloodhound Project, The Station, Hamilton House and BrisFest - all community based projects.
To undertake the above task, teams will need to attend a series of master classes including project management, effective teamwork, marketing communications and presentation skills. In addition they will be taking part in Bristol Fashion Week where they will create a collection called ‘what to wear to work. Throughout the competition process young students will be supported by mentors who are business professionals. The awards are also recognised and accredited by ASDAN.
Comment from on of the competiting schools
"Thank you for putting so much time and effort in to this competition, it is by far the best planned and supported enterprise/employability skills competition I have ever come across. I have been involved with enterprise education for the last 6 years, been to two national Business and Enterprise conferences and worked closely with an Enterprise Education firm which won a Big Society award and have not seen anything that could rival the opportunity or scope for self development that this competition provides for pupils.
